preserving the nation's fairytales and folklore through film | ||||
Childe Rowland -our third film - is a fascinating British fairy tale possibly dating back to Anglo-Saxon times. It tells the tale of a little girl who runs whiddershins (anti-clockwise) around a stone circle, and disappears into fairyland. Her three brothers set out one by one to rescue her. Lots of Chagford children dressed up as fairies and eerily tempted our hero Rowland to eat fairy food, and thus be trapped forever. One little girl wouldn't come out of her tree to eat her lunch!
